A lot of my recent posts have been filled with highlights and substantial financial progress. While of course I am very proud of my accomplishments, I’ve found myself contemplating the (very rocky) road I took to get where I am today.
You see, my road to financial independence has not always been sunshine and roses; it wasn’t always filled with large amounts sent to savings, growing retirement accounts, and debt-eradicating monthly goals. In fact, in the beginning it was filled with potholes, roadblocks, wrong turns, and detours: credit card debt, stupid choices, lack of awareness, and no sense of self. I was young, naive, and flat broke. Worse yet, I carried debt like a badge of honor: Can’t afford it? Charge it! Don’t want to see those monthly statements? Sign up for e-statements and set inbox preferences for those to go to spam folder! I’ll pay for this someday, just not now. Ugh.
In the name of (anonymous) full-disclosure, I’ve decided to divulge more of my financial past in a new series, Confessions of a PF Blogger. My hope is that my story will inspire readers to set (and reach) ambitious goals no matter what their current situation may be. As someone who once had $1 to my name, I know that it is possible to change any situation; to create your own financial destiny. Join me throughout this series and please do share your experiences, current struggles/goals, progress, advice, etc
